[Clinton, N.C.]– At last night’s regularly scheduled Board of Trustees meeting, Sampson Community College’s (SCC) Electrical and HVAC programs presented impressive data showcasing their rapid growth—expanding by over 200% in full-time equivalent (FTE) in the last five years. This success is credited to the innovative scheduling and dedication of SCC’s expert faculty, who continue to adapt programs to meet industry demand.

Before the meeting, newly appointed trustees Clay Strickland and Chuck Spell had the opportunity to tour campus alongside SCC leadership. The tour provided a firsthand look at the college’s expanding programs and facilities, reinforcing SCC’s commitment to preparing students for in-demand careers.

With skilled electricians and HVAC technicians in high demand across North Carolina, SCC is committed to ensuring a steady pipeline of qualified professionals. The state faces a critical shortage of licensed tradespeople, making SCC’s efforts essential to the region’s workforce development.

“SCC recognizes the urgency in preparing the next generation of electrical and HVAC technicians,” said Jake Miller, Department Chair of HVAC/Refrigeration & Electrical. “Through strategic scheduling, hands-on training, and industry partnerships, we are equipping students with the skills needed to step directly into potentially high-paying, in-demand careers.”

Barney Grady, Dean of Applied Technologies, praised the dedication of SCC’s Applied Technologies faculty and staff in shaping the future of technical education. “Our team is constantly working to create more efficient teaching methods and develop innovative lab spaces that allow students to learn at their own pace while gaining real-world experience,” Grady said. “This commitment to hands-on training ensures our graduates are workforce-ready and able to meet the demands of today’s employers.”

In addition to celebrating program growth, the Board of Trustees voted to approve the program application for a new Applied Engineering Technology degree program, which will now move forward for approval by the state board. This new offering will further SCC’s mission to provide cutting-edge training that meets the evolving needs of the workforce.

As SCC continues to expand its trade and technical programs, the college remains a leader in workforce training, helping students begin successful careers while supporting the region’s growing infrastructure needs.
